G6 HW - Origin Tale

  1. Review page 222 of the TB.
  2. Make sure you understand the term origin tale.
  3. In your notebook, write a page that 'explains' something in the world like an origin tale does. Below is an example to get your brains going:
Many miles from here, there was a place where the Sun and the Moon lived. They lived in a grand house, with many beautiful rooms. In fact, the rooms were so beautiful that people came from far away to see them. Some of the rooms were decorated by the Sun, and some of the rooms were decorated by the Moon.

Now what was very interesting about the rooms was that they were either painted in very bright and warm colours, or in soft and cool colours... blah blah blah

The idea of this unfinished story was to explain why the Sun and the Moon decided to live separately and why we now only (generally) see them at different times.

Feel free to draw a picture to help bring your story to life, but one full page (for A4, or a page and a half of the other size) must be written on.

Tip: Some students find it can be hard to write a long story, so a good tip is to use details; explain what the characters look like, how the weather was et cetera.

G9 HW - Quote Selection

In preparation for our essays, go through Chapters 1 - 8 and select at least 10 parts of the text (per chapter) that could be used to support a thesis. These could be dialogue quotes like Piggy's "Life is scientific," (pp 84) or a piece of text from the narration, "The Lord of the Flies spoke in the voice of a schoolmaster." (pp 143)

Highlight them in your novel, and then write them into your notebook. Make sure to record the page numbers as this will make citation easier when it's time to write the essay.
