This assignment is optional, and will not give you a bonus for your grade. It is purely for your own learning. Click here to access the folder. This will use the block style of Compare and Contrast structure. That means that you will write about the first topic in detail, then you will write about the second topic in detail. This allows you to explore each idea in depth, instead of simply listing and comparing/contrasting details of each topic
For example, an essay comparing English and French would, after an introduction, do an analysis of the English language, and then do a detailed analysis of French. Once the two topics are examined, then you will discuss the connections.
Write an essay that examines (compares and contrasts) two different things, places, concepts, etc.
Use this structure.
- An introduction: This will grab our attention with a strong opening image. State what, and why, you will be examining both topics. If you aim to say that one is better in your concluding paragraph, do not state your final idea here.
- Discuss the first topic.
- Discuss the second topic.
- Now that you've discussed both aspects, you can now evaluate both topics and argue for your concluding idea.
- Briefly review your ideas, restate your final position.
Here are some topics that you can choose from:
- Greek & Roman Mythology
- Vampires vs. Werewolves
- Mahatma Gandhi vs. Osama Bin Laden
- Protestantism vs. Catholicism
- Apple vs. Microsoft
- Primary School Vs. Secondary School
- English Vs. French
- World War I vs. World War II
- Make your own!
